Site Size & Condition: Small Prasat Prasat Tnaot Chum Khang Cheung (ប្រាសាទត្នោតជុំខាងជើង - Pronounced: Pra-saht Thnaout Johm Kharng Jherng)

A small, but rather confusing site consisting of a solitary brick tower, in a reasonably intact, but very overgrown and neglected, condition. (At least, last time we looked.)

Notable elements include a damaged and eroded lintel, (now positioned in a vertical position next to the east door), linga pedestal (now removed) and part of a rounded colonette. The exterior brickwork itself also features some detailed carving and combined with the sandstone carvings are indicative of a 7th-century, late Sambor Prei Kuk, or early Prei Khmeng art style.

Tnaot Chum East probably continued as a small, slightly obscure, provincial temple for several centuries until it was apparently selected for a drastic Post Bayon-period make-over. Why this one among the hundreds of brick towers is a mystery but 3 large (6m) standing Buddha images were carved into the outsides of the north, south and west walls. 2 additional figures, on either side of the doorway are heavily eroded but still visible. (It's not clear whether these 2 smaller figures are dvarapalas - guardians - or standing Buddhas.) The Buddhas are poorly executed, heavily eroded and cloaked in vegetation for much of the year.

A 13th century and an undated Pali inscription were also found here.
