Site Size & Condition: Wall Sambor Prei Kuk Embankment (កំពែងសំបូរព្រៃគុក - Pronounced: Kom-paehng Som-bor P'rei Kok!)

The remains of a low embankment, located aside a now largely dry moat, almost certainly correspond to the outer walls of the ancient city of Isanapura and/or Bhavapura. Traces of both earthen wall and moat are clearly visible to the west and north and intermittently to the south, while the eastern section was probably replaced by the O Krou Kae River. The west side stretches for some 2 kms, broken up by a central opening at the point where the ancient road from the southwest meets the embankment. As with the south and central temple groups, the orientation is a few degrees north of a true east-west alignment.

The enclosed section contains numerous smaller shrines and temple sites and perhaps represents the principal urban area however the major temple groups to the east would have fallen outside of the walls and moat. The alignment hints at an early 7th, rather than a late-6th-century date, corresponding to Isanavarman I's city rather than Bhavavarman I's but that is speculative.

The reasons for the unusual orientation and for excluding the main temple sites from the enclosed city are not known.
