Site Size & Condition: Wall Terrace of the Leper King (ព្រះពន្លាស្ដេចគម្លង់ - Pronounced: P'reah Pon-lear S'dach Kom-long!).

This northern extension of the Terrace of the Elephants is thought by some historians to be the site where the remains of deceased kings were deposed after cremation. In that case, the identification of the free-standing statue atop the terrace with Yama god of death and the underworld is entirely logical. (The statue is a copy, (the original is currently displayed at the National Museum of Cambodia), and nor does it represent any mythical 'Leper King'.) The persistence of this myth may of course be derived from some ancient folk memory and various kings - including Jayavarman VII himself - have been put forward as candidates.

The eastern, sandstone facade of the 6m high terrace is covered by spectacular reliefs including male and female gods and demons. During restoration work, a second, parallel terrace wall was discovered behind with additional well-preserved reliefs and an access gallery opened up between the 2.
