Site Size & Condition: Wat Wat Andong Svay (វត្តអណ្តូងស្វាយ - Pronounced: Woit On-dauhng S'vay)

Curious site based around an active Buddhist monastery of the same name. Firstly, the monastery may be constructed over the top of an earlier site and a possible, ancient, man-made pond lies just to the southeast.

Secondly, a nearby neak ta shrine (formerly listed as Neak Ta Ong Mung, Cisark 2082) holds (or held) the socket section of a sculpture along with smaller sandstone fragments. (Recent renovation of the pond likely means the neak ta is no longer standing.)

Thirdly - and this is the curious aspect to the site - is that it has been tentatively identified as the unconfirmed location, Phnom Andong Svay. Earlier French archeologists report 2 underground chambers uncovered at said spot, containing various artifacts, notably the carved trident and inscription formerly held at nearby Wat Vihear Thom. The chambers apparently collapsed afterwards and, rather predictably, no traces remain and their whereabouts are unknown.

In so far as Andong and Svay are very common names and neither a 'phnom' nor a reported adjacent spring can be seen in this vicinity, we can't see any evidence to support this theory.
