Site Size & Condition: Medium Prasat Prasat Don Tuan (ปราสาทโดนตวล - Pronounced: Pra-saht Don Too-wan)

Small, brick and laterite sanctuary situated atop a forested escarpment a few kilometres east of Prasat Preah Vihear.

The site consists of a square tower with the lower section built of laterite and the upper courses out of brick. An elaborate sandstone column-lined porch or entrance chamber (the roof is now missing) on the eastern side seems slightly out of proportion to the small tower while what appears to be a ruined 'library' building lies immediately to the south. There are also traces of an enclosure wall while ponds can be seen to the east and west of the main sanctuary.

Although the temple lacks decorative features an uncatalogued inscription can be seen on one of the doorjambs which has been dated to 1002. This would place it within the short reigns of either Udayadityavarman I or Jayaviravarman although, taking into account the construction time required, the sanctuary itself can be more realistically dated to Jayavarman V who is estimated to have died in 1001. Small sandstone statues of Shiva and Ganesh were also unearthed in, or close to, the sanctuary although we are unsure of their current whereabouts.

The edge of the escarpment is a short distance to the south of the site and affords spectacular views over the north Cambodian plain.
