Ban Xieng Vang Tha (ບ້ານຊຽງວັງທ່າ - Pronounced: Baan Zieng Vang Ta)
Ancient artefacts deposited in Buddhist wats is a common occurrence but in this case a large, inscribed sandstone block was deposited in a Catholic church just south of Thakek Town where it reportedly served as a doorstep for some time before being apparently transferred to the Thakek Museum. (A site for which we can find no record at all.)
The 2m sandstone block features an inscription in Lao text although EFEO archaeologists have identified the object as being of earlier, Khmer origin, probably originating from a nearby mound site, Ban Xieng Vang Nua. [1]
