Wat Bang Sai (ວັດບາງໄຊ - Pronounced: Wot Bang Sai)
Small, Buddhist monastery located on the west coast of the northern section of Don Daeng, opposite CHampassak Town. The wat grounds display several irregular-shaped sandstone fragments which were presumably unearthed in situ as they don't appear remarkable enough to have been deposited there from elsewhere, although that is purely conjecture, with no evidence.
The island undoubtedly supported a substantial population in earlier times and it is conceivable that the wat represents an ancient site with 2 straight lines of vegetation to the east possibly representing a section of moat or pond? Further verification is required.
(Although not specified in the UNESCO submission, the site does fall within the designated Wat Phou and Associated Ancient Settlements area.)
