Site Size & Condition: Museum Champassak Provincial Museum (ຫໍພິພິທະພັນແຂວງຈຳປາສັກ - Pronounced: Ho Pee Pee Tah-pahn! Ae-khuang-jum-pa-sak!)

This tiny, provincial history museum, is currently situated some 5kms east of modern-day Pakse Town although there are plans to return the museum to the town centre in the near future.

The exhibition includes local handicrafts and the culture and traditions of ethnic minority groups of the region but also extended to cover the Angkorian and pre-Angkorian periods and housed some excellent examples of lintels and carvings from the southern part of the province. Two very fine lintels are on display - a Thala Borivat-style lintel unearthed at Huay Tomo and a Sambor Prei Kuk lintel. (Provenance unlisted.) Staff informed us that a spectacular, double-sided relief in excellent condition was found at Wat Luang Pakse although its original provenance is unknown.

The exhibition is certainly very limited in size but the few pieces on display are well worth seeing although if you are considering a visit please re-check the museum's location before heading out there.
