Khao Klang Nai (เขากลางใน - Pronounced: Kow Klang Nai)
Large, rectangular-based chedi constructed with small, laterite bricks and located within the central moated area just south of the two principal Khmer-style sanctuaries Prang Si Thep and Prang Song Phi Nong. The structure is likely to have a similar 7th to 8th-century date to the even larger Khao Klang Nok, situated north of the central zone, although shows more extensive signs of restoration and modification during the subsequent Khmer era than the latter.
The Buddhist structure was already old by the time the Khmers took control of Si Thep and larger laterite blocks near the foot of the chedi may represent attempts at renovation or consolidation during this later period. A series of smaller associated structures - represented today by laterite foundations - surrounding the main chedi as well as an enclosing laterite wall resemble typical Khmer features and may also have been added at a later date.
Some of these smaller buildings have been assigned individual monument numbers by the TFAD (e.g. Si Thep Monument 28) but all are clearly associated with Khao Klang Nai even if their original roles - e.g. chedi, shrine, 'library' - are today indeterminable. A broad, cruciform-shaped entranceway is also typical of a later, Khmer, period.
