Chiang Mai National Museum (พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ เชียงใหม่ - Pronounced: )
The newly renovated museum houses a small but splendid collection of Khmer bronzes and sandstone, donated by the Bangkok National Museum. They are listed as 'Lopburi Art - 11th-13th centuries' but are indeed all late 12th or early 13th-century Bayon-period artefacts. Provenance is unlisted except for a seated Buddha image noted as originating from Wat Mahathat (Phetchabun).
All Khmer artefacts in the museum are listed in the photo gallery below.
Please note, as the CISARK website has an entry for Chiang Mai, (number 4428), we have decided to associate this number with the National Museum, (it is highly unlikely that a 'temple' site was ever established this far up north) in order to avoid an additional, unidentified, listing for Chiang Mai.
