Site Size & Condition: Medium Tuol Ku Ban Hua Sa (กู่บ้านหัวสระ - Pronounced: Koo Baan Hoo-wa Sa)

A unique setting, literally sitting in a villagers backyard in the middle of the village. This former temple site is reported to have been built of sandstone that opened to the east. Surrounding the main temple was a laterite enclosure that lead onto the small rectangular reservoir that we have listed as Hua Sa.

A local villager states that 20-30 years ago the site was a 'mound' however many of the stones were taken by villagers and repurposed, whilst some were moved to the village 'wat' Wat Ban Hua Sa.

The collection of sandstone, Khmer-era, objects has been placed in a low-walled, square plot for safekeeping. (Certain of the more interesting items have been reportedly removed by the FAD to be housed elsewhere.) A number of decorative sections of red and grey sandstone wall cladding are on display as well as a partial pediment and several large blocks which are likely to have been sections of doorframes and steps. A few brick fragments are also present. There are insufficient complete reliefs and decorative elements for a precise dating although the late 11th century - Baphuon to Angkor Wat style - is likely and, once again, the reign of Jayavarman VI may be a good bet.

A somewhat confusing site which could have benefited from some more extensive FAD excavation and research. Also confusingly, CISARK offers several colloquial names and site numbers for this small clutch of sites and which listing refers to which depository is unclear. It is, of course, entirely possible that CISARK's original information dates to a time when the disposition of artefacts was different to that seen today.
