Muang Phlap Phla (เมืองพลับพลา - Pronounced: Moo-ang Plap Pla)
Ancient settlement site displaying remnant sections of a surrounding moat and a large, still intact, baray just northeast of the village. (Listed as Baray Phlap Phla.) The village is located some 25 km south-southeast of Phimai (Vimayapura), close to the ancient road to Angkor and a mere 4 km from the dharmasala site of Ku Sila. The adjacent village Ban Som Sa-at, a mere 500m or so to the north, is also clearly an ancient settlement and displays a near intact circular moat.
Interestingly, Phlap (or Phlab) Phla in Thai translates as something along the lines of royal waiting or reception area, (see also the khleang site of Phlab Phla at Phimai), so perhaps the name derives from some folk memory of the ancient settlement performing the role of a rest or preparation site prior to the arrival of VIPs at Vimayapura.
The large reservoir northeast of the village also emphasises the importance of the settlement. No ancient vestiges are known from within the village area.
