Site Size & Condition: Reservoir Nong Krot (นองกลด - Pronounced: Nawng Krot)

Small, intact, rectangular reservoir situated on the eastern side of sprawling Non Sung Town - the main district administrative and market centre. The reservoir measures 70m x 120m with an alignment of 75 degrees. Non Sung has certainly been occupied over a long time frame and the northeastern section of town still displays a distinct circular layout. This region was one of the foremost salt-producing areas - as it still is today - and would have been highly important during the period of Khmer administration with the commodity exported onwards to the capital and major population centres.

The CISARK website lists a site 1845 a short distance west of the reservoir within the present-day town - simply named Bua - although it is undescribed and we have no additional information. Coordinates are given as 15.18219, 102.26276, however these are frequently unreliable on the Franco-Khmer website. Whether it refers to a specific site or the general village is unclear but we feel the latter is far more likely. The circular section would have been a more distinct, separate village, in former times prior to asbortion into Non Sung's present sprawl.

Web photos of an active Wat - Bua Non Sung - situated slightly further west, fail to reveal any artefacts or vestiges.
