Pak Nam Mun Inscription (จารึกปากน้ำมูล - Pronounced: Jaruk Pak Nam Mun)

The Sanskrit language inscriptions in Pallava script catalogued as K.496 and K.497 were reportedly discovered on the right bank of the mouth of the Mun River, placing them opposite the town of Khong Jiam and a short distance downstream of Tham Phu Manai in what is today Kaeng Tana National Park. (The discovery date and precise location are unknown.)

The inscribed artefacts appear to consist of a large sandstone stele and a smaller, presumably reconditioned, sema stone, both of which are now housed in the Ubon Ratchathani National Museum. As with Phu Manai, (K.508 and K.509), the two similar inscriptions reference the establishment of a Shiva linga by Mahendravarman. (1)

Seven near identical inscriptions have been found across northeastern Thailand although as Mahendravarman is thought to have begun his Isan odyssey from the vicinity of Wat Phu these are presumably slightly earlier than texts found in areas further west such as Buriram and Khon Kaen.

(1) Inscriptions seem to use the name Citrasena, Mahendravarman's pre-coronation name, meaning dating is more likely to be late 6th rather than early 7th century when he acceded to the throne.
