Wat Maruekhathayawan (วัดมฤคทายวัน - Pronounced: Wot )
Small Buddhist monastery complex located atop a low wooded hill in the southern reaches of Nongkhai Province close to the border with Udon Thani. Pride of place in the wat's collection of religious artefacts is a small, now gold leaf-covered, seated Buddha image which displays a distinctive Khmer - possibly early 12th century - art style. The provenance of the statue is rumoured to be the Phimai area although this is unconfirmed.
We're unaware of any additional Angkorian objects housed in the wat although it may be worthwhile double-checking the complex's various shrines.
