Site Size & Condition: Small Ruin Wat Si That Karam (วัดศรีธาตุการาม - Pronounced: Wot See Tat Karam)

Unusual, rectangular-shaped laterite structure located within the grounds of Wat Si That Karam. (Also sometimes named Wat Ban That.) The structure, estimated at 6m x 20m and 1.5-2m in height consists of some half a dozen slightly indented courses of laterite topped at one end with a ruined brick stupa or chedi. The ruin is still largely covered in earth and grass and it isn't clear how much of the building may remain hidden. (We're unable to precisely locate the ruin within the sprawling wat grounds but reports claim the structure is aligned to the northwest.)

The vestiges of the circular brick chedi presumably represent a Lan Chang addition although the date and function of the underlying laterite structure are hard to fathom. Both the long thin form and the northwestern orientation (if correct) are anomalous in Khmer architecture and while the laterite blocks may have been recycled from an earlier construction - with an alternative shape and alignment - many of the blocks themselves are unusually shaped including some square or decidedly chunky examples which also differ from the ubiquitous Khmer rectangular blocks. Additional blocks, as well as 2 or 3 sandstone fragments, are on the ground in the vicinity of the ruin.

We believe the site was recently registered by the TFAD and hopefully, some form of excavation may ensue providing much-needed information and details.
