Wiang Chai (เวียงชัย - Pronounced: Wee-ang Jai)
Another well-defined moated settlement in a clutch of similar sites located on the alluvial flood plain north of the Mun River. (The river today forms the border of Buriram Province and a narrow tongue of Surin which separates Maha Sarakham from the Mun.)
The raised settlement measures some 300m in diameter and shows wide ponds to the east and north which possibly correspond to sections of the ancient moat. The site appears to be listed by CISARK as Khilek 3 (?) and was confirmed by Japanese researchers although we are unable to locate it in the TFAD survey.
Nor were we able to find any recorded vestiges although a rectangular field pattern due east of the village hints at a possible ancient reservoir.
