Baray Tuol Preah Theat (បារាយណ៍ទួលព្រះធាតុ - Pronounced: Bar-ray Tool Prey-a Tee-at)
Now dry, rectangular reservoir noted on the CISARK entry for the adjacent Tuol Preah Theat (Bavel). (It may be partially filled during the monsoon period.) The feature shows an alignment of some 70 degrees, measures approximately 100m x 180m and is situated 75m east of the tuol. (The northern embankment today may be slightly further south than the original layout intended.)
The reservoir's positioning vis-a-vis the ancient sanctuary strongly suggests that it represents an associated baray and is theerfore likely to be contemporary with the presumed Bayon-period temple.(1) The prupose of a second, adjacent reservoir to the east, Baray Tuol Preah Theat II (Bavel) is less obvious.
(1) The local name for the feature - if any - is unknown, therefore our Beyond Angkor name is our own invention.
