Site Size & Condition: Cave Phnom Kuk (ភ្នំគុហ៍ - Pronounced: P'nom Kook)

Small Buddhist cave shrine including stone, bronze and wooden Buddha images - some clearly old and others of more recent date - as well as several sandstone fragments among which a Ganesh figure can be seen. The site - more overhanging rock than cave to be precise - has clearly been used as a kind of hermit's cave for centuries.

Close by the cave is a group of 15 or so sandstone sema stones of an unusual square, pyramid-topped form. Curiously these are grouped in pairs on a small, cleared rock terrace in a boulder-strewn, forest site with no visible vestiges in the area. Quite what they originally demarked, halfway up a mountain in the middle of nowhere, and how long they've been there is a mystery.

The sites are reached by a rough path leading from Wat Phnom Kuk at the foot of the mountain
