Asram Moha Eisei (អាស្រមមហាឥសី - Pronounced: Ah-srom Moh-ha Ee-sei)

N17 or Asram Moha Eisei, lying in the northern areas between the middle and outer enclosure walls of Prasat Sambor, is an extraordinary construction and seems to predate a certain modern-day Swedish conglomerate's flat-pack system by some 1500 years! The sandstone structure - representing the inner cell of a long-gone brick tower - consists of 6 large slabs, floor, roof and 4 walls, simply slotted together to form a large sandstone box.

Decoration can be seen on the well-preserved structure with small, Indian-style, faces (known as kudus) around the top and miniature flying palaces or buildings at the bottom. A narrow walking space would have existed between the inner walls of the brick tower and the sandstone cell or womb. At Sambor, shrines N17 and S2 (the latter still has the brick tower) show this highly unusual style, while the only other known examples are the sites of Prasat Asram Moha Russei, Takeo and Kuk Preah Theat (Hanchey), Kampong Cham (both basalt) plus a possible ruined shrine at Wat Phu, southern Laos. (All sites are usually credited to Bhavavarman I.)
