Jim Thompson House (บ้านจิมทอมสัน - Pronounced: Baan Jim Thom-son)
Museum established in 1959 in the house of former US entrepreneur Jim Thompson - famous particularly for his work in re-establishing the Thai silk industry - to house his personal collection of Southeast Asian art. The exhibition includes various ancient Buddha images - some of which are considered to date from the Khmer period while several, damaged sandstone lions in the courtyard are also of Angkorian appearance. The provenance of artefacts is generally unknown and/or unindicated.
The beautifully maintained, traditional-style Thai house and gardens are perhaps the star of the show and the centrally located museum is well worth a visit even if Khmer artefacts may be few and far between.
Note that several entire books are devoted to Jim Thompson's life, work and mysterious disappearance in Malaysia in 1967 so, for now, we've just posted a link to the general, potted Wikipedia biography.
