Wat Prayun (ประยูร - Pronounced: Wot Pra-yoon)
Celebrated Buddhist monastery located in Thonburi, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya, opposite the huge Pak Khlong Talart flower market. The wat dates to the Rama III, Rattanakosin, period and features a spectacular white stupa surrounded by a covered circular gallery. Said gallery includes an exhibition of artefacts - many of which were reportedly unearthed during renovation work on the stupa. (This is sometimes referred to as a museum.)
Notable from a Khmer perspective is a well-preserved, 1.5m high, sandstone seated Buddha image in a Bayon style. While a number of Dvaravati artefacts may suggest an earlier structure on the site, we're unaware of the precise provenance of the Buddha image. (There may also be additional Khmer-era exhibits that we are also unaware of.)
The architecture of this UNESCO-recognised temple is impressive, the Bayon sculpture is in remarkable condition and the display well worth perusing for other objects of interest.
