Wat Chantra Prasat (วัดจันทราปราสาท - Pronounced: Wot Chan-tra Pra-saht)
Despite the name, this active Buddhist monastery doesn't feature any actual 'prasats' - intact or ruined - and the title derives from the name of the village itself which in turn (we assume) gets its name from Prasat Ta Leng (also known as Prasat Lumphuk), a Suryavarman I-period sanctuary situated slightly north of the village.
However, the wat itself does show signs of possibly having been constructed on an ancient site which could have formed part of the same settlement complex as Prasat Ta Leng. The central area of the monastery - in front of the modern vihara - reveals a square, vegetation-lined area which corresponds to a possible, now-dry, pond located on a similar alignment immediately to the east. On the south side of this tree-lined area lies a second, still-filled pond with wide embankments and an identical, slightly northwest-southeast of east-west alignment.
On the north side of the wat an uncultivated, forested area, also features a small partially-filled reservoir, with a similar orientation while to the south, satellite images reveal the presence of 3 adjacent intact reservoirs. The easternmost and largest, Nong Makham measures some 325m square, while to the west is an east-west orientated, also square reservoir followed by a rectangular 80m x 150m partially filled pond.
Although to our knowledge no vestiges as such have been identified among these various sites they do offer tantalising clues as to a substantial-sized settlement having existed in this area. Further verification is required.
