Wat Nang Khue (วัดนางขื่อ - Pronounced: Wot Nang Keur)
Site of a now completely destroyed Khmer brick tower - situated slightly west of Wat Mahathat (Chai Nat) - under what is today the playing field of Khuru Prachasan School. (โรงเรียนคุรุประชาสรรค์.) The abbot of neighbouring Wat Mahathat recalls an FAD excavation at the location although no traces of the ruin are visible today.
Old photos (perhaps 100 years or so?) show a partially intact, square, brick tower on a high base complete with square, carved sandstone columns on either side of a doorway. (The style is hard to discern from grainy images but could be 11th-century.) Adjacent structures are also partially discernable while 2 seated Buddha images can be discerned among the brick rubble of the interior of the tower. (These are not necessarily contemporary with the temple and could have been deposited in the ruins at a later period.)
The Buddha statues strongly resemble some sculptures housed in the Chai Nat Muni National Museum although we are unable to locate the sandstone columns featured in the photos - if indeed they still exist.
There may also be some correspondence with the lintels housed at nearby Wat Phra Kaew (Chai Nat) or Wat Mahathat Chai Nat but the confirmation of a Khmer tower does add credibility to the cluster of tuol sites situated just to the south as well as our proposed sites immediately north such as Wat Tha Sao.
